TerraViso is a new environmental intelligence company built around a simple idea:
We have more environmental data than ever before. The challenge is turning that evidence into a better understanding of how landscapes actually work.
TerraViso brings together location intelligence, environmental data and ecological analysis to help reveal the relationships within landscapes — what is there, how habitats connect, where fragmentation exists, how places are changing and where different choices could make a difference.
But TerraViso didn't begin as an idea for another environmental software platform.
It grew from more than three decades of working with geographic information and asking what we could understand if we started connecting the evidence differently.
I began my career as a town planner, responsible for environmental policies in rural Monmouthshire.
That early experience taught me something that has stayed with me throughout my career: decisions about individual sites rarely make sense without understanding the landscape around them.
I subsequently spent more than 30 years working with geographic information, remote sensing and location intelligence across the UK and internationally.
The technology changed enormously during that time.
We became much better at collecting data. Satellites, aircraft, field surveys, sensors and national datasets now provide extraordinary amounts of information about the world around us.
But I became increasingly interested in a different problem.
Were we actually getting better at understanding what all that information meant?
In ecology, we can map woodland, grassland, wetland and hedgerows with increasing detail. But a habitat map still tells us surprisingly little about how those habitats relate to one another, which relationships matter, or how the landscape might respond to change.
That became the starting point for TerraViso.

TerraViso started with a question about whether location intelligence could help us see more in environmental evidence.
That question continues to shape the company.
Because better decisions about nature, land and development begin with something deceptively simple:
